Beta Tech meet Ferrum College, Ferrum College meet Beta Tech. Beta Tech has a paralegal training program that is done in the following manner. For any 5 week period you have 4 hours worth of class four days a week, that may mean 1 class (as in your internship) or that may mean 4 classes, or any other odd combination thereof. My classes all ran from roughly 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and I was the only student in the Paralegal program to have any kind of lunch or snack break. At the end of the five week term (called a MOD) you simply put those old class materials away forever as you will no longer need them, you are done with that class. Ferrum College is your standard four-year residential college. Ferrum has 2 semesters per year, during which you may take up to 19 credit hours. That could mean 3 classes or 8. At Ferrum you have some choice over the order in which you take classes and at what time as well as on what days. At Beta Tech they hand you your class schedule and books and that is about it. All of this may make Ferrum sound like it is an easier place to take classes… But then there is E-Term… E-Term is a brand new thing at Ferrum. E-Term is a three week time when the students can take a class 5 days a week 6 hours (or at least that is the written Schedule) a day. At the end of that the kids walk out with one of 2 required E-Terms, maybe 3 credits under their belts, possibly a general education requirement met, and above all they are beat tired and within 2 heart beats of a stroke. I am glad I am not there right now because of the living arrangements but I really wish I was there since I am a veteran at this sort of schedule and could help my pals relax a little.
